The Laredo Hotel and Lodging Association is more than just a gathering of local
industry leaders. Just as Laredo is Truly Texas, the association is Truly Laredo
and most certainly Truly Texas. Our primary goal is to further the cause of the
hotel industry—mainly the agenda of our member hotels albeit our efforts benefit
the larger hospitality trade as well as, parks, recreation and leisure. The hotel
industry is by far one of the largest employers in Laredo; and generate sufficient
occupancy tax revenue to fund all of the travel and tourism promotion of the city,
provide funding to other city entities, and non-governmental entities (museums,
heritage society, Chamber of Commerce, Laredo Main Street – Jamboozie
Festival to name a few) not only in the City of Laredo but the County of Webb also
in their efforts to promote travel to Laredo. At the state level, our membership
and a seat on the board of the powerful Texas Hotel and Lodging Association
continue to pay us dividends as far as influencing legislation affecting the
hospitality industry. On an international stage, our strong partnership with the
City of Nuevo Laredo not only benefits trade and tourism but the special
relationship affords us a seat at the table in the development of binational
relations.
We also make a difference at the local level by giving back to the very community
we live in. Our partnership with the two colleges—Laredo Community College and
Texas A&M International University— and with the Workforce Solutions of South
Texas in furthering education and training for our employees (including tuition
assistance and reimbursement scholarships) has furthered the quality of heart of
the house, administration, and management staff working at our hotels. At the
local level our support of Teaching and Mentoring Communities, scholarship
funds established by various council members and Navidad El Barrio children’s
Christmas toy donation drive by the County of Webb Constables, Precinct 1
continue to improve the lives of those needing the most assistance.
The association has also entered into the business of promoting festivals. We
partnered with Avenida San Bernardo Association in rolling out two unique
festivals: Miller Lite Cinco de Mayo en la Avenida and Dos Equis Fiesta en la Playa.
And our latest and boldest creation is a celebration of the river, of the splendid Rio
Grande, an international kayak and canoe competition (www.laredosriofest.com)
in partnership with the Cities of Laredo, Nuevo Laredo, County of Webb and in
association with Laredo Main Street, American Diabetes Association, and Laredo
Art League: Laredos Rio Fest 2009, which will be unveiled the weekend of October
16 and 17.
So, hola and bienvenidos, hello and heartfelt welcome to Laredo, Texas! Support
us as we continue to strive in making a difference in Laredo, in the County of
Webb, in Texas, and on the international stage. We urge you to select one of our
member hotels during your next stay. If you require meeting, banquet or special
event assistance, hotel properties who are members of the association are
prepared to meet every need.
Laredo, Truly Texas.
